Election Musings

Well, 8 days away until we all cast our vote.

I noticed that there seemed to be a shift - if not in the country than at least in myself - around Christmas when it was announced that Ralph Goodale was being investigated regarding the income trust leak. I thought at the time that this would be the last straw for many Canadians. It would be enough for them to vote out the Liberals.

That's probably a good thing - a good house cleaning is essential to democracy's success - but I still can't bring myself to vote Conservative. There are still too many neo-Con skeletons in their closets waiting to jump out the day after election day. Besides anyone my cousin Ted votes for is probably not someone the rest of us should be voting for.

So, I'm stuck on who to vote for. For a while all the parties were in the running in my mind for my vote. Well, not all. The Marijuana Party and other fringe elements never warranted any serious consideration. But, yes, I even considered voting Conservative. Now that the polls indicate the Conservatives are leading, I'm changing my mind. Now it's down to the Liberals or the NDP.

The incumbent is a Liberal but, sadly, he's not running. I liked him and would have voted for him. I've met the NDP candidate - a short, older woman who probably wears Birkenstocks even in the winter. In the end, I'll probably vote Liberal just because the Conservative candidate ia an arrogant twerp who thinks he's already won.

My prediction: a Conservative minority government, just shy of a majority. Locally, the Conservative will squeak in by a narrow margin.
